Air pollution - a real danger.

On average, we spend 90% of our time indoors, where air pollution is usually 2-5 times higher than outdoors. After reading this article, the first thing to do is to open a window.

The main reason why air quality is worse indoors is poor ventilation.

While air pollution is at its lowest level in a decade, you should take the opportunity to circulate clean air through your home.

Air pollution affects us all, slowly but surely degrading our respiratory systems and reducing our ability to fight infection and disease. 800,000 deaths a year in Europe are caused by air pollution - more than smoking. In the short term, poor air quality results in reduced energy, nasal congestion, headaches and dizziness, and is the main cause of rapidly rising asthma rates.

Shockingly, children’s bedrooms have the worst air quality.

Cleaning products, new furniture, fresh paint and plastic toys release potentially harmful toxins into the air, which are breathed in by the most vulnerable and precious members of our families.

Importantly, schools are also working to improve their indoor air. A school in central London with extremely poor air quality found that by painting one classroom with air-purifying paint, the NO2 concentration was 95% lower than in the neighbouring classroom.

Poor air quality will return after containment

When we emerge from the containment period, many of us will remember the blissfully aircraft-free skies, the song of dawn uninterrupted by the roar of cars, and walks in noticeably fresher, cleaner air.

Unfortunately, as we have already seen in China, high levels of air pollution will return.

Legislation and responsible companies have begun the seismic shift needed to clean up the atmosphere. In the meantime, we must seek to limit indoor sources of air pollution and begin to employ ways to actively clean the air in our homes and workplaces.

Opening windows will soon no longer be an attractive option. Active air purification is therefore essential, especially for the most vulnerable people.

NASA has published a list of the best air-purifying plants, there are plenty of electric air purifiers on the market and now even the possibility of having air-purifying paint on your walls.
